One of the biggest questions that marketing professionals have asked is:
“how often should a nonprofit post on social media?”

If you’ve ever Googled this question or something like it, you know there are a bunch of different answers:

  • “Two to three times a week”
  • “Every single day”
  • “Only when you have an announcement”
  • “Depends on the platform”

The thing is, any of these answers could be correct for your organization. You just have to test them out.

And that’s the quick tip of this week: test, test and test some more to determine how often you should be posting on your social media platforms. Ask yourself how often your target audiences are responding to and engaging with your posts. Consult your analytics for specific answers that will guide you. To make the most of social media, you have to use the data your target audience provides so that you can make informed decisions.

I know, I know: This doesn’t seem like something you can do quickly because it isn’t. Figuring out how often you should post on social media also includes knowing how each social media platform works. Whatever conclusions you come to should be specific to a social platform so that you get the best results.

Getting the hang of social media takes time. I’ve only mentioned the frequency of posting. There’s also what you post to consider. When you figure these things out, you will have truly struck social media gold. So, take your time and enlist the help of your team.
