Why is brainstorming important for nonprofit or social cause businesses?

Even if you have all the right communications strategies, plans and campaigns in place, nothing happens on its own. You have to think and wonder about it, practically and conceptually.

But if you don’t have the time to think or the sounding board to use your time efficiently, you end up in a lose-lose situation that feels never-ending.

I know you’ve read the stories about how brainstorming is a waste of time anyway, useless and not a worthwhile or fruitful endeavor. However, the problem is not brainstorming itself; it’s the *ways* that brainstorming occurs and how those ways are not conducive to creativity.

For instance, meetings are for decision-making within a specified time; brainstorming is for idea generation within a flexible time. So, an in-person brainstorming session where there is a fixed time limit that depends on other priorities and there is no purpose besides completing the agenda is not going to yield much of anything.

You know what will? A well-planned brainstorming session

The best ones are:

✅Planned (in a way that respects everyone’s time and commitments)
✅Facilitated (by someone who knows how to facilitate conversation)
✅Intentional (in terms of its purpose, objectives and activities)
✅Accommodating (of multiple types of participation)
✅Welcoming of critique, feedback and discussion

None of this requires special equipment. The goal is to produce useful and valuable ideas that you have agency over in terms of implementation

That’s why brainstorming is so important, especially if you can find someone who is experienced in the nonprofit sector and willing and able to offer said experience (hint hint, wink wink). It immediately solves your problem of time as well as ideation! If you work with me, you can be sure that the brainstorming process will be as smooth as can be. It may even be fun!

Brainstorming helps you uncover the unexpected and discover clarity. I want to help you do that.
